I believe fate is present in our lives. Events and occurrences in our daily lives may seem as though they are just chance and coincidences but they are all leading to the same predetermined fate. Many people do not like this conclusion because humans like to feel as though they are in control of their lives and life decisions. Fate gives us the facade of control while still guiding us to an ultimate ending. This can be a harsh reality that every decision is leading to a immovable conclusion.
Shakespeare feels the same way I do. In Macbeth the characters know their Fate, "Stay, you imperfect... thane of cawdor lives." (Act 1 Scene 3, Lines 73-75). They try to avoid the prophecy from coming true. However in the end of the play all of the characters cannot avoid their fate coming true. Macbeth specifically tries to change the predicted fate by attempting to kill Banquo and his son. However this is unsuccessful because Banquo's son escapes as the murderer describes, "Fleance is 'scaped" (Act 3 Scene 4, line 22). This is one way in which Shakespeare demonstrates how he believes fate is unavoidable despite any one's interference.
I like how you analyzed the concept of fate in a different way than most would think. I agree with you saying that humans like to feel like they are in control of their lives, when fate is still in the background. I like how you showed evidence of Shakespeare in demonstrating that changing the prophecy was unsuccessful because it justifies that everyone does have a predetermined fate. One thing I would ask is what do you believe influences fate in peoples' lives?
