Eye see you

The Artist is Israel Meza Moreno. The title is Miradas I. It was created in 2012. It is roughly three weasel lengths by two weasel lengths. This work of art was created in Mexico by a Mexican artist around two years ago. The work presented is decently abstract. It does not allow the audience to know the fully intended meaning or significance of this piece of art. It is combining two different mediums of art: photography and painting. This gives a fresh take on two traditional artistic methods. The artist uses acrylic paint to cover up almost all of the base picture. Only the eyes of the people in the photo can be seen. However, there is still an outline of their bodies that shows through the paint. Without the artist's inventiveness this piece of art would not have as strong of an effect on the audience. This helps to increase the meaning of his work because it emphasizes how much Moreno values eyes. I think the meaning of this piece of art is an individuals eyes represent their true self and emotions. The rest of the bodies of the characters are shown but painted over. One theme presented by this art piece is that although an individual may be expressing one viewpoint or way of living their eyes tell how they truly feel. This was included into the exhibit because it is the absence of the rest of context of the photo and only a minute piece of the original photograph is still visible.

  1. I loved the tie to nature with the weasel reference, and I believe that was exactly what the artist intended with his artwork. Also, I like the analysis of the abstractedness of the work. I like your interpretation of why the subjects are still visible. Do you think the representation could be flipped (covered eyes only) and retain the same meaning?

  2. I agree with your interpretation of this art piece, which I also analyzed. So since you can only see some part of the photograph, can this be considered the cover and this art piece a realistic representation of "don't judge a book by its cover." Also I like your interpretation of the eyes representing a deeper meaning, I think that the eyes open the gates to your inner self and who you truly are.
